The Medi-Cube project aims to contribute to the objective of raising the intensity of research expenditure and activity of enterprises in the participating regions through a mix of activities. This will be done in two main phases using a range of tools:
The problem that Medi-Cube is addressing is the relatively low performance of target areas in innovation capacity compared to Northern European member states.
The innovation index for Greece is 0.20, for Cyprus is 0.17, for Italy is 0.31 comparing to EU-15 which is 0.44. Medi-Cube is an innovative transnational project which aims to enhance the abilities of targeted incubators in initiating the innovation environment so innovation can flourish among their tenant high-tech SMEs.
The project implements activities sufficiently including:
Preparing the incubator innovation network.
This activity concentrates on the creation of the MEDI-CUBE network of innovative incubators that includes the following actions:
- (WP1.1) Analysis of the business and technology environment in which the network members operate. This action will take place in all targeted areas with participation of all partners.
- (WP.1.2) Implementation of an online innovation platform to facilitate the transfer of technologies and product innovation to tenant companies, external companies, and industry sectors as well, having as basis the existing innovation toolbox of URENIO research unit. (URENIO will prepare the platform that will be used in all targeted areas. The platform will consists of four sub-platforms concerning marketing and technology intelligence, incubator innovation management, new product/service development and marketing innovation techniques towards innovation build-up.
- (WP.2.1) The innovation capacity build up manual will elaborate the four subcomponents of the platform presenting step by step the four processes for building innovation (WP.2.2) (Transferring know-how of all network members in the adaptation and use of the toolbox in their particular business environment. The transfer of know how in innovation management via The Platform will be implemented from URENIO to all targeted areas. The activity will be implemented through three technology transfer events.
Flourishing innovation among sector targeted tenant SMEs, including:
- (WP.3.1) Selection of sixteen pilot application (four for Central Macedonia, four for Matera, four for Brindisi and four for Calabria) among the four selected innovation areas of WP.1.2.
- (WP.3.2) Pilot implementation of the platform in sixteen cases in different industry sectors and development of the corresponding technology services. The cases will be applied to the four platform areas mentioned in WP.1.2.
- (WP.4.1) Evaluation of pilot applications and exchange of good practices based on the results of the pilot applications.
- (WP.4.2) Extending the MEDI-CUBE network by playing an active role in relevant innovation activities, so as to respond better to the changing macro-environment, raising interest for more research and/or creation of appropriate conditions for setting new strategies in innovation promotion. The activity will be implemented through three technology transfer events in Central Macedonia, Italy ).
Extending the MEDI-CUBE network
(WP.5.1) The dissemination actions, which will focus on:
- Implementation of web site of MEDI-CUBE.
- Printing of promotional material for the MEDI-CUBE network and distribution to targets
- Continued collaboration between the members of the partnership or winding up of the partnership and expected use of results upon completion of the project.
- The expected results of enhancing the technology based cooperation between 10-20 incubators in the targeted area are after the end of the project are:
- A cooperative network of applications in the targeted areas to the sectors addressed, in detail these applications will be
| Innovation area | No of applications |
| Market and technology intelligence | 4 |
| Marketing Innovation | 4 |
| New product / service development | 4 |
| Incubator innovation build-up management | 4 |
The partnership is composed of an innovation facilitator (URENIO Research Unit) of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki that will play the main role innovation build up technology transfer. In Greece, Italy and Israel intermediaries, public authorities are participating capable to engage the targeted incubators that will act as users of the project.
